Always stay close to your belongings. Most rail attendants will confiscate "lonely luggage" It's always wise to board your train as early as possible. Try to find a compartment with other travelers such as yourself. Woman traveling alone might be a little more comfortable in a compartment with other woman. Don't hesitate to change compartments if you feel uncomfortable. Try to keep your important documents on your person (preferably in a money belt) when going to bed at night. Do not leave your important documents in your bags when going to sleep. Always lock the door to your cabin. Always double check your bags to make sure you're leaving with everything you arrived with. Watch out for groups of children or adults creating a commotion meant to distract tourists for easy pick pocketing. Keep a modest amount of cash in your pocket.
